Spotlight: Steve Lasch

Steve LaschMarkers:

Talk about your auspicious beginnings. Steve began his career in one of the most time-honored posts in the advertising industry: the mailroom.

Everyone needs that first break. Steve’s came with the sudden departure of the writer on the Sears account at Fahlgren & Ferriss, where he was dutifully delivering the president’s Wall Street Journal (and everything else) each morning. Two years later, he had run the agency’s table as a copywriter: McDonalds, Formica, American-Standard, Ohio Bar, Ashland Oil, Valvoline, and more.

It was on to Charlotte, and the beginning of a long association with Loeffler Ketchum Mountjoy. And, another run that included Bojangles’, Duke Power, Shakespeare, Thomasville and Vermont-American. From creative, he then switched to the other side of the plate and began hitting strategy: interviewing, moderating, analyzing target segments, rationalizing strategic approaches, writing elegant and, more importantly, on-target briefs for creative.

A broad knowledge of all aspects of advertising and an even deeper hunger to find some key fact or motivation the other guys won’t. That’s Lasch.

Family:

Wife Linda is a Realtor and occasional ceramicist and fiber artist. Sgt. Colin Lasch, USMC, is a counterterrorism trainer and bagpiper currently serving in Iraq. Son Ian, ex-Army Intelligence, is a speaker of Arabic, Iraqi dialect and Kurdish for a civilian contractor in Augusta. Stepdaughter Katie is a homemaker.

Passions:

History, especially U.S. and Europe during “the long 19th Century.” The Napoleonic era. Southwestern native American cultures. The Four Corners. L.A. detective fiction. Learning the dobro. Hiking, biking, kayaking and traveling the blue highways.

Words:

If you don’t convey your brand personality, don’t worry. Someone else will.
