Spotlight: Susan Dosier
Markers:
It was more audition than internship. When Susan broke into the magazine business with Better Homes and Gardens, little did she know it was the start of a career path leading to the Executive Foods Editorship at Southern Living – and beyond.
After nine years of gaining exposure to the world of Southern Progress, the sudden freedom to become a mom brought the freedom to start her own firm, The Susan Dosier Company. These were years in which she “tapped into who I am as a person” – as a spokesperson for satellite media tours for the National Pork Board, editing a Gulf Coast travel and leisure magazine and creating signature media events; she even staged impromptu kitchen facilities at venues such as Atlanta’s Turner Field.
Then came the call to return to Southern Living as Executive Foods Editor. In addition to reading and reviewing thousands of recipes, writing and editing about the whole universe of food and managing major events like the Southern Living Cook-Off, the post gave Susan the opportunity “to help create a culture that inspired the growth of people.”
Melding this passion for the growth of individuals with the new advances in targeting media created Susan’s intense interest in the power of public relations.
Family:
Husband Des, an Iowan, is a self-employed writer and “a career-newspaper-guy-cum-ag-tech-journalist.” The couple share school parent duties for two daughters.
Passions:
Reading. Not just recipes, but bio-epics like Goodwin’s Team Of Rivals. Hiking. Whitewater rafting. Soft adventure in the great outdoors followed up with a glass of wine with friends and family.
Words:
The things that matter are the things that improve life – as simple as a glass of wine, or as powerful as a social revolution.
